The summer transfer plans of a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, hang in the balance amid the scrap for Champions League places.

Targets, especially those of Man Utd, Newcastle, Chelsea and Tottenham, are understood to be waiting to see who qualifies for the Champions League before making their decisions.

Man Utd are understood to want the likes of Liam DelapMatheus Cunha and one of either Antoine Semenyo or Bryan Mbeumo for their forward line, and they will become an increasingly attractive destination if they can offer Champions League football next season.

Semenyo is believed to be ahead of Mbeumo on the list of targets at United, but Liverpool and Newcastle are also keen on both, as are Spurs, who would also be a much more attractive draw with Champions League football if they can beat United in the Europa League final.

Newcastle and Chelsea, who could both finish in the Champions League places via the Premier League, are also monitoring Delap’s situation, and Newcastle are believed to be prepared to sign him regardless of what happens with Alexander Isak.

Delap, who has a £30m release clause at Ipswich, is a player Eddie Howe has been tracking for a number of years, and he tried to sign him for Bournemouth in August 2020.

Cunha has given positive indications he is open to joining United, but he also has Arsenal and Aston Villa on his trail, although Villa only have a 16 per cent chance of qualifying for the Champions League from the final few Premier League games, according to Opta’s predictive supercomputer.
